Vision: A vast network of optimally designed ”Adaptation Fortresses” scattered all over SW Bangladesh, solar powered, offering shelter from harsh heatwaves and cyclones, while contributing to water security.
Innovation: Proposal of heatwave shelters for first time in Bangladesh. Community-scale RWH.
Demonstration: For this vision to be realized, a large-scale climate change adaptation project, only after demonstrating the concept at small-scale.
Goal: Transform ~two multipurpose school cyclone shelters into multipurpose multi-objective (cyclones and heatwaves) shelters, and a community scale Rain Water Harvesting (RWH) facility.
Steps:
(1) Careful selection of two sites;
(2) Licensing and approval from local authorities;
(3) Design and installment of air conditioning, solar energy system, and RWH system;
(4) Support management, testing and refinement of the facilities.
