We are creating proactive, integrated decision-support tools and services that empower frontline vulnerable communities to prepare for climate impacts and minimize losses. We integrate and deploy MIT strengths in climate science to understand future impacts and inform adaptation strategies.

By providing high-resolution climate projections for the next 30 years, we empower communities and governments with essential data to develop effective strategies and proactively adapt to regional climate change. Our main focus is on the future of agriculture, shelters, and water security in Southwestern Bangladesh.

Jameel-Observatory CREWSnet is a research program that consists of 8 research projects organized around 3 focus topical areas. We seek to make measurable and lasting impact through 3 mechanisms.

Focus Areas

Water

We are projecting where and how saltwater intrusion caused by tidal surges and rising sea levels will degrade freshwater sources and developing a scalable solution to adapt to evolving water insecurity.

Where is access to clean and affordable drinking water the most limited?
Reverse Osmosis (RO) Water Entrepreneurship Project

Agriculture

We are integrating hazard modeling results to assess possible effects on agricultural and economic systems in the future and exploring innovative adaptations.

Where are future conditions going to prohibit agricultural prosperity?
Sunflower Seed Coating

Shelters

We leverage regional climate modeling of future wind, inundation, and heat risk to build capacity and inform the design and implementation of climate resilient structures.

Where are shelters needed and what capabilities do they require?
Adaptation Fortress
